Students who join iGEM can choose to work in one or more of the sub-teams. While all the sub-teams work towards the same goal, each of them specializes in different aspects of the current project.
Wetlab
The wetlab sub team is principally in charge of undertaking the hands on benchwork that the project required. After the project idea is chosen, the wetlab sub team must design the experimental protocol and then carry it out.
Drylab
Drylab performs data analysis and mathematical modeling of physical systems, often assisting other subteams. This subteam is also in charge of creating the software and hardware prototypes required for the project.
Human Practices
The Human Practices sub-team situates our project in a social/environmental context. While the other sub-teams focus on the biological and technical aspects of the project, we will focus on understanding how our new technical capabilities will fit in the real world and solve societal problems. Ultimately, by evaluating ethical, legal, social, economic, and biosecurity factors, we hope to foster discussion with real people and experts in the world and make a project that is truly beneficial and meaningful for society.
Wiki
The Wiki sub-team is in charge of the website development and graphic design for the team. A large part of the competition is creating a website known as the Wiki. The team Wiki is where all of the project information is stored and presented. The Wiki is evaluated on a number of criteria, including design and ease of navigation.
